As the capital of Scotland, Edinburgh has been a seat of learning and culture since the middle ages. Historic associations with the monarchy include the Palace of Holyroodhouse (the official residence of Her Majesty the Queen in Scotland), and the Royal Yacht Britannia now berthed permanently at Leith - both are open to visitors. Edinburgh is also now home to the Scottish Parliament with its exciting new architecture. In the evening Edinburgh has all the quality night-life and entertainment of a modern European City.
